We accept United Concordia Tricare Dental Insurance and Plans at Murphy Dental. Since we are contracted at our office in Colorado you will receive the best benefits with United Concordia for your dental treatment in Fort Collins.
This applies to PPO plans only – sorry we don’t accept HMO plans as we don’t get compensated for services performed from HMOs or for some of their Federal dental insurance plans.
This type of insurance is typically offered to active duty members of the United States military as well as their family members. This active duty dental program also applies to members of the National Guard as well. Dental coverage may also apply to each eligible family member for active reserve members.
We always get in touch with TriCare prior to providing dental services. Structures of dental insurance plans are continually changing, so we coordinate with TriCare so we know what your dental plan covers.
Murphy dental provides to the community what we can, and military plans are something Dr. Murphy strives to accept, sometimes even if we are in-network the military plans for service members and military families may have specific guidelines different from general dental Tricare plans.

Procedure Types and United Concordia Tricare Coverage
As with most insurance providers, coverage is broken out into Preventive, Basic, and Major categories – each of which is explained below in a bit more depth.
Preventive Dental Services
These services are generally associated with your twice annual visits to our dental office. Dental cleanings and fluoride treatments are two examples of services that fall under the preventive category
United Concordia Tricare Dental plans vary, but will oftentimes cover as much as 100% of preventive dental services costs.
Basic Dental Services
Basic services are to address more complicated existing dental conditions that go beyond just preventing future problems. Examples would be dental fillings and emergency x-rays.
United Concordia Tricare covers a bit less for basic dental services. Usually on the order of 80% or so of the total cost for these types of procedures.
Major Dental Services
Dental services that are classified as major are typically more intensive dental procedures like dental restorations (dental implants, dental crowns) or extracting impacted teeth.
As with most major dental insurance companies, you’ll be paying more out of pocket on a percentage basis with United Concordia Tricare for Major Dental Services. They usually cover only about 50% or so for these “major” services.
