Murphy Dental is in network with All Principal Plan Dental Networks. Principal dental insurance is issued by Principal Life Insurance Company out of Des Moines, IA. Principal offers hundreds of dental insurance plans and features a very large dental network.

Principal typically has a higher maximum for patients which is the maximum amount your insurance will pay out per year towards your dental treatment using your deductible and co-insurances on dental services.

Your plan can be found by looking at the ID Number on your insurance card. Providing this information to us can help us to determine the information about your plan. This can help us to determine what procedures are covered by your insurance, and the percentage of that coverage for each type of procedure.

Principal Financial Group - Principal Plan PPO Dental Services Coverage

Most insurance companies – including Principal – divide their coverage into three broad categories of dental procedures.

Preventive Services

These services are generally routine preventative services like the things you’ll experience during your twice annual dental checkup. Preventive services therefore typically include things like x-rays, fluoride treatments, and dental cleanings.

This will be your highest percentage of coverage with a Principal dental plan as many of their dental insurance plans cover as much as 100% of preventive services.

Basic Services

Basic services are a bit more intensive than preventive services and can include emergency dental care and diagnostics as well as fillings for cavities. On a percentage basis, Principal dental plans typically cover less for basic services than for preventive services – usually around 80%.

Major Services

Major services are oftentimes associated with more significant, oftentimes restorative dental procedures. This can include many oral surgery procedures including dental implants, dental crowns and dental extractions. For these “major” services, Principal dental plans typically cover around 50% of the total cost.
